Marrakech: What to Do & See
And just like that all good things come to an end ... but that means I get to share it with you guys! We’ve just returned from our second trip to Marrakech Morocco and I have to share a bit about our story with this city.
3 years ago, we spent most of our honeymoon in Marrakech, I had always dreamt of visiting Morocco in general and when picking our HM spot, we knew we wanted something new for the both of us. I instantly fell in love with the place, the sites, the people, and knew that wanted to go back soon! Now three years later we were able to visit again. Since this was our second trip there are some activities we didn’t do or sites we skipped since we had already experienced them, some we had to skip because of weather lol (we HM in mid-april and it was so nice! The hottest day we had was 33c/91f. this time around in late May it was a different story we were at 43c/109f. Anyway, although I’m working on my Vlog on my YouTube channel I thought if you just want a quick reference a list is easier.
Y ya saben todo lo Bueno llega a su fin … pero eso significa que les puedo contar y compartir todo aquí. Acabamos de regresar de nuestro segundo viaje a Marrakech, Marruecos y les tengo que contar un poco nuestra historia con esta ciudad.
Hace 3 años pasamos nuestra luna de miel (LDM) en Marrakech, y fue uno de esos lugares de los cuales me enamore en cuanto llegamos. Siempre había querido visitar un país árabe y en especial marruecos no sé si fue gracias a mi amor por Aladdin de chiquita o que algo siempre me atrajo del país. Al decidir a donde ir de LDM, decidimos algo que fuera nuevo para los dos, un país/ciudad que pudiéramos conocer juntos. Desde que regresamos la primera vez le dije a Arturo que quería regresar y bueno este año se nos hizo. Ya que este fue nuestro segundo viaje hay cosas y lugares que ya no volvimos hacer o por el clima (y una súper gripa de Arturo jajá) se nos complicaron. ¿Por qué el clima? Nuestra LDM fue a mediados de abril y en esas fechas el clima esta súper agradable, hasta fresco (máximo 32*c). Esta vez fuimos a finales de mayo y para estos días las temperaturas ya estaban a otro nivel (44*c)
Y aunque estoy editando el Vlog de YouTube les quise dejar mejor una lista, por si están planeando un viaje, esto es más fácil de ver. Aquí les dejo lo que en mi opinión es lo más padre (aunque siempre has más por ver) y lo que deben hacer y visitar:
Visit:
Palais Badii: One of the oldest palaces in Marrakech from the 12th century / De los palacios mas antiguos y grandes de Marrakech. siglo 12.
Palais Bahia: Built in the 19th century intended to be one of the greatest palaces of its time. by the cultans Vizier as a gift to his wife // Construido ene l siglo 19 por la mano deracha del sultan como regalo a su esposa.
Dar El Bachar: One of the newest opened to the public palaces and not too touristic ... yet. / Palacio No tan turistico, recientemente abierto al publico.
Le Jardin Majorelle (very touristic and packed this time around) Muy turistico este viaje lo notamos super lleno.
Ben Youssef Madrasa: Old boys school / Antigua escuela de niños
Medina Market: This experience is amazing, if it’s your first time in Marrakech I would recommend getting a guide, ask you hotel to book you one, they are extremely helpful in getting you around the market. Especially if you’re looking for specific items, he/she can navigate you directly to them. They are all registered with the government and have to have a license. Les recomiendo que, si es su primera vez en Marrakech, conseguir un guía para ir al mercado. La medina es enorme y enredado, si vas con un guía él te puede llevar a lugares específicos. Especialmente si estás buscando alfo en particular, él/ella te pueden llevar directo y guiar un poco en calidad y precio. Pregunta en tu hotel si te pueden contratar uno por el día y puedes agregar algunos sitios históricos.
Must see hotels and properties:
Many of the big hotels and properties in Marrakech are beautiful places and full of rich history some going back to the 14th century. So, whether you stay there, go for a lunch date, dinner or a spa day they are worth the visit:
Hoteles y Propiedades: Muchos de los grandes hoteles y propiedades en Marrakech fueron palacios y son patrimonios históricos y valen mucho la pena ver o visitar, aunque no se estén hospedando ahí. Pueden ir a comer, cenar, unos tragos o te, o hasta un día de Spa.
La Momounia: one of the most iconic hotels in Marrakech. It’s huge with a lot to see.
Selman: dinner is amazing there. And they have horses.
Royal Mansour: must not miss the spa!
La Sultana Marrakech: in the middle of the Medina, petite luxury only 28 rooms originally built in the 14th century. / En el centro de la ciudad una Mansion del siglo 14 que ahora es hotel de 28 cuartos. Pictured above-
Do / Actividades:
Hot Air Balloon ride over the Moroccan desert: you can pick your time slot we did the earliest to see the sunrise with Ciel d’afrique. / Globos Aerostáticos sobre el desierto: Puedes escoger tu hora, nosotros fuimos a ver el amanecer, y aunque nos tuvimos que despertar a las 3.30am valió muchísimo la pena!
Camel Ride: avoid the camels by the side of the road inside the city, I don’t know much but what I do know is they are just there for pics and I am not a fan of that. Instead when booking a desert activity (like scarabeo camp below) we did this on our honeymoon and these camels live with a local family in a big open space ... just seem like happy camels lol. / Paseo en Camellos: Si pueden evitar los camellos que tienen en la ciudad a la orilla de la calle, háganlo. Esos solo los tienen ahí para fotos, en cambio hay varios que en realidad te pasean en el desierto y los camellos están mejor cuidados.
Scarabeo Camp: A tent like camp hotel in the middle of the desert, we did this three years ago and loved it! We did the camel ride through the desert to the camp. And this year we saw they offered horseback riding, ATVs and other options. Arturo ended up having a pretty bad cold and we realized it wasn't wise to go out into the 107* weather with a fever. / Scarabeo Camp: un Campamento en el desierto, que es hotel o restaurante. Hace 3 años hicimos el paseo en camello en el desierto hacia el campamento y fue de mis experiencias favoritas. Si no te gustan los camellos puedes escoger caballos, cuatrimotos entre otros.Este viaje, aunque lo teníamos planeado decidimos cancelar por que Arturo se enfermó, estar en el sol a medio desierto a 45 grados con gripa creo que no hubiera sido buena idea jajá. Where To Stay:
Donde Hospedarte: Hay muchos hoteles buenos, algunos son estilo Resort y otros Riads (casonas convertidas en hotel … Son increíbles.
Four Seasons: both our trip have been to the FS and we love it! And it’s outside the old city so it’s pretty peaceful and just 10min from the airport. / Aquí nos quedamos este viaje y parte de nuestra LDM. Es un súper hotel, afuera de la cuidad antigua y a 10min del aeropuerto. (pictured/foto)

There are many Riads (hotels) you can stay at, I just would recommend researching very well and if you’re going in the summer confirm they have AC. / Muy recomendado, pero investiguen bien especialmente si van en calor, confirmen que si tengan AC. Que casi todos tienen.
Palais Namascar: We spent a couple days of our HM, it's outside the city, it's more of a spa and disconnect hotel / Aqui pasamos los ultimos 2 dias de nuestra LDM, esta mas afuera de la ciudad y es tipo para desconectar y con super buen spa.
Tips:
Their local currency is called Dirhams (pronounced Deerams) MAD. Exchange your currencies at the airport. Since you cannot purchase or take MADs out of the country it is better to do this at the airport as soon as you arrive. / La moneda local son los Dírhams o MAD abreviado en precios (pronunciado Dirams)Cambia y compra MADs en el aeropuerto dentro de la ciudad no los puedes cambiar. Solo en algunos hoteles, pero en el aeropuerto es lo más practico.
Late July and august are reportedly very hot. We were told normal temperatures in August are 54c/129f So if you’re not good with heat plan on a different date (most activities are outdoors or no AC) / Finales de Julio y todo el mes de agosto el calor es una cosa de locos nos dijeron que su temperatura normal en agosto es de 54*c. Si no te gusta mucho el calor o no estás acostumbrado, planea mejor tu viaje antes de junio o después de septiembre. La mayoría de los museos, palacios y actividades son al aire libre sin ventilación ni aire.
At the market and highly tourist areas avoid being pulled into shops or stalls … its trap J that’s why we loved having a guide. / En los mercados y zonas turísticas, evita que te jalen a su puesto jajá por eso nos gusta llevar guía porque te ayudan con eso.
What to wear: I have a video explaining this better coming soon to my YouTube Channel, Subscribe: But Marrakech is one of the most open cities in Morocco and has been a vacation spot for Europeans fro many years. So they are not strict about dress code for most activities. I still avoid deep cleavages or butt showing lol not that I do that anyway. / Como Vestir: De las preguntas que como mujeres más nos hacemos. Marrakech es mucho más internacional y abierto que otros países árabes y de lo que me cuentan de las más abiertas de las ciudades en Marruecos en general. Ves de todo, mujeres muy conservadoras y mujeres enseñando de mas jajá.En general ropa fresca, y aunque puedes enseñar yo evito escotes y enseñar pompa. Pero vestidos cortos están bien (pronto un video de YouTube completo con esto.
Language: Official languages are Arabe (Moroccan Dialect) and French although most people speak english and many also a bit of spanish / Idioma: Sus idiomas oficiales son Arabe (dialecto Marroqui) y Frances. Aunque la mayoria hablan aunque sea un poco de ingles y tambien encuentras a muchos que hablan un poco de español.
